How I Met Your Mother might have Barney Stinson’s book of Bro Code but it was Entourage that showed that bro-mance is more precious than wealth and the women in one’s life. Entourage showed that with one’s best friends by their side, one can overcome the greatest of hurdles and even survive the erratic world of Hollywood. So, with 5 years since it aired its last episode, here are 5 reasons to convince you to start watching Entourage, if you haven’t already.
A CHUCKLESOME AND UNTYPICAL PLOT: Based on the lives its executive producers, Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson, Entourage records the career of Hollywood’s A-listed actor Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier) and his pals Eric “E” Murphy (Kevin Connolly), Johnny “Drama” Chase (Kevin Dillon) and Salvatore “Turtle” Assante (Jerry Ferrara). Adding to this group is Chase’s insolent agent Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven). Always dressed to the nines and indulging in opulent lifestyles, for seven fantastic years, Entourage served as the Walter Mitty for men of almost all ages, away from the mundane life led by rules and ruined on the death glares of wives and girlfriends, the life of these five men seemed almost real, like the ultimate happy place. Luxuriant lifestyles, ritzy clothes and swanky destinations, Entourage, has all the trappings of a blockbuster and is the only series that comes close to be hailed as the Sex and the City for men.
ARI GOLD: Starting off as a despicable creep, Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven), Vincent Chase’s agent eventually rose to popularity showcasing his enterprising personality. Under that brash behaviour and smutty tirades, Ari Gold hid a soft heart filled with love for his wife and exceeding loyalty for Chase. Over time, Jeremy Piven’s portrayal of Ari Gold, gained a lot more acclaim than the main characters and was has won a Golden Globe award and three Emmy awards. THE CAMEOES: One of the most interesting facts that makes watching Entourage fun was the bevy of celebs it brought for a single episode. Authors, musicians and athletes had done cameos for the show where they would play themselves. Starting from actors like Jessica Alba, Scarlett Johansson, James Cameron, Peter Dinklage, Matt Damon to sport stars like Lamar Odom to bands like U2, almost all episodes of Entourage, were graced by celebrities thus adding to the regal quotient of the series.
THE LOCATIONS: Just like Sex and the City, swish locations and ornate destinations, which spell of grandeur, the hallmark of the rich, became one of the key selling elements of Entourage. Palatial properties were featured in most of the episodes to add to the expensive Hollywood flavour.
THROWS LIGHT ON THE UNDERBELLY OF HOLLYWOOD: Entourage deals with the life of a Hollywood actor hence what gives this series a ring of realism is the way it shows the unglamorous partner of this glitzy industry. The addiction issues of the stars, the competition to climb the ladder and maintain the position, the uncountable sexual partners, the insecurities and losses of the celebrities to the malicious co-stars, Entourage brings all of this under its radar and presents them in the most appealing way possible. Happy bromance to you 😀 🙂
